At one time this area was depopulated and urban gardens were created

Many years ago, between the sixth and twelfth centuries, this area was depopulated staying. Gaps between the Roman ruins were to become orchards.

Roberto Silverstini has been in charge of Barcelona Ceres for about two years. Very long time ago, between the 6th and the 12th century, the population of the block between the streets Llibreteria, Freneria and Paradís, decreased progressively. The old Roman centres of power, now named as the Miraculum, were surrounded by vegetable gardens. I was usual to find plots inside the city during this period, and some of these are still documented in the 10th the 11th centuries. In 1146, someone named Pere Ramon, who was a Presbyterian, donated a few houses to the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. The properties had a courtyard and a well, and they were very near the Miraculum. The boundaries that appear in the donation’s documentation show that the commercial and residential activities in the area where rising. Looking around, to the west, the Paradisi mansions (a grand house that probably belonged to a rich trader), and to the north, the house of a public notary.
