Holes in the street and mud were a constant problem for walkers and carriages, therefore, some changes were required. This street was cobbled in 1738 as directed by the municipal government. However, the biggest cobbling campaign in Barcelona happened between May and September in 1802, preparing the city for the king’s visit, Carles IV. Most of the stone was extracted from Montjuïc. The king came to Barcelona to a double wedding celebration (Asturias prince’s and a princess’ weddings) and stayed two months for these events in the city. For months before the king’s visit, not only the streets were paved, but also several public works took place, official buildings were restored and altered, and the streets rearranged.
