You are in front of La Bordiny. In 1798 Antón Brusi Mirabent set up his printing shop at what today is number 21 at carrer Llibreteria, just opposite this store. A few years later, during the Independence war against the French, Antón obtained the printing rights of Diario de Barcelona, and the following years he also had several important assignments from the Administration. The business was expanding and he was running out of space, therefore in 1821 he decided to buy the entire block between Llibreteria, Dagueria and the old carrer Moles (that it was where the building in front of you is nowadays). In 1846 the whole block was demolished and built again in order to align the houses at the same level than the ones at carrer Jaume I, that had been just open recently. The new newspaper press was installed at the basement of the new building, and from 1851 it worked with steam, issuing a print run for 7.000 subscribers. The Brusi family business lasted many years, and the Diari de Barcelona it was also known as el Brusi.
